In 1973, the Hyser house was threatened with demolition due to the expansion of West River Drive.Plainfield Township officials agreed to take ownership of the Hyser house, move it in 1976 to its present location, and re-purpose it as a museum. Plainfield Township trustees formally appointed community members to the Plainfield Township Historical Preservation Advisory Commission to collect historical artifacts and care for the house, as well as serve as Docents for public tours of what was christened the Hyser Rivers Museum.
In 2022, township officials retired the historical commission, and the new, independent non-profit Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society was born.
