Become a Part of the Hyser Rivers Museum

Members are invited to attend the monthly membership meeting held 2pm—4pm, the second Tuesday of the month from February through December at the PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP HALL.

Meetings are focused on fun activities, and educational programs often planned by individual members. Meetings are also occasions for learning about volunteer opportunities, support for historical research on personal topics of interest, and lively conversation. Refreshments are hosted by member committee. Become a member now, or sign up during a meeting!
The Hyser Rivers Museum is the only state-recognized historical site within Plainfield Charter Township.  However, without the interest and effort from a group of township residents in 1973, who came together to save this home, the Hyser Rivers Museum literally would not be here today.

You can help preserve a piece of history that will continue for generations to come simply by becoming a member. Your membership fees can be as affordable or as generous as you wish (see DONATIONS).  Our members enjoy opportunities to meet people with like interests, explore exhibits and research behind the scenes, and along the way, provide the funds to pay for the operating costs that make a visit to the Hyser Rivers Museum an entertaining as well as educational experience.

Volunteer at the Museum

How do volunteers help out at the Hyser Rivers Museum? Let us count the ways!

The Hyser Rivers Museum is first of all, a home. And just like any household, no matter how old, the house needs to kept clean, furnishings have to be moved for storage or display, records must be kept and updated, guests must be invited, welcomed and planned for when it comes to special occasions. If you love to help out, if you have a particular skill (from carpentry to computers) you will find a special place to contribute to the future of this lovely historical jewel  we call the Hyser Rivers Museum – and we would love to have you on our team.

Please contact us [email protected] for opportunities.

Become a Docent

The Hyser Rivers Museum cannot operate without Docents!

Webster defines a Docent as “Instructor” or “Lecturer,” so it’s obvious that a Docent is someone special – not only willing to learn about the history of the Hyser home, but dedicate time to sharing their knowledge with visitors.  Docents undergo training inside the Hyser Rivers Museum to become familiar with the story of the Hyser family who lived here, the artifacts that are on exhibit, and the history of the now vanished Plainfield Village, just to put everything in context. They’re friendly, helpful, and work closely with the Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society Board of Directors to support the policies that safeguard our guests and township property
