Walking the Sheridan-Indian Trail in Plainfield Charter Township
Presenter: Susan Ford Marschall, PGRHS Member Tuesday, February 13, 2024 Trails established by the indigenous people of Michigan have often been paved over to form our contemporary highways that hide centuries of history. PGRHS member Susan Ford Marschall explored and photographed the Sheridan-Indian trail that begins in downtown Grand Rapids at the Campau trading post. It traverses Plainfield Avenue to Coit Avenue and continues through Plainfield and Cannon Townships to Myers Lake Road. The trail heads northeast from there. Sue reflects on her experiences that made a powerful impression as she traveled ancient pathways we no longer recognize. Making of a Museum Special 30th Anniversary Presentation Presenter : Grace Smith, DesignSmith, Rockford Tuesday, March 12, 2024 In 1994, Architect and Historic Preservation Consultant Grace Smith, our March 2024 guest speaker, was hired to provide the Hyser Rivers Museum with the comforts of a 20th Century home — a bathroom, a kitchen, a back porch and more. She created an intricate design as complex and beautiful as a work of art thirty years ago. Read her presentation to find out how she completed her mission — spoiler alert — it wasn’t easy! |
