Deb Havens
Deb Havens's varied career spans the education field, as well as television and radio broadcast. She graduated from Western Michigan University and began her career as an English teacher in Jacksonville, Florida, where she completed her Master's in Education Administration degree at the University of Florida. Retuming to Michigan, Deb worked as a news reporter and talk show host for an all-news radio station and later produced award-winning documentaries, investigative reports, and public affairs programming for WZZM in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In San Francisco, California, she served as programming consultant for client television stations in small, medium, and major markets.
Deb holds several certifications in education, management, leadership, and personal development training, including a Doctorate degree in Education Leadership from Eastern Michigan University. Her dissertation topic was Gendered Governing: The Leadership Experiences of 7 Women Former Governors. In 2000, she chaired the Education Policy Committee on behalf of Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm's successful primary campaign for executive office. In 2017, she chaired the first ever conference of U.S. women governors hosted by The Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies. That same year, Deb received the Hyperion Award for service leadership to the West Michigan production community.
She was appointed to the Plainfield Historical Preservation Advisory Committee by the Plainfield Charter Township Board of Trustees in 2019 serving as Secretary in 2021, Vice Chair in 2022, and the Historical Society Transition Subcommittee Chair. In addition to her election as President of the Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society, she is the founding Chair and current member of non-profits Korean Connection and the Film & Media Alliance of West Michigan.
