The Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society began publishing digital newsletters in September 2022, distributed via emails collected during Hyser Rivers Museum Open House dates, as well as visitors from the Plainfield Charter Township Community Center who toured earlier in the year.
The first paper edition was published in March, 2023, for those members who preferred a written copy to the digital. An extra $5 was charged to cover paper and postage. Newsletters were written by President Dr. Deb Havens. The paper version was printed by Secretary Sue Irvine and distributed to the Plainfield and Comstock Park Libraries, as well as the Plainfield Charter Township lobby and offices, by member Sue Marschall. |
Oral histories were first recorded by members of the first Plainfield Charter Township Historical Commission, formed in 1976 to operate the Hyser Rivers Museum. In addition, 1976 was the year of US Bi-Centennial celebration, and the Kent County Historical Society requested that each township in Kent County record interviews with its elderly residents.

The Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society published the first Annual Report shortly after receiving non-profit tax exempt status on December 1, 2023, with the effective date of September 9, 2022. The first Annual Report covered 2022 through 2023, including details of the origin of the new historical society, its name and design of its logo.
Since then, the Annual Report continues to be published annually as a document produced to meet IRS standards of a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, because it reports the results of its charitable mission to the community it serves. 2024-25 Annual Report 2023-24 Annual Report 2022-23 Annual Report |
